Detecting Neuroendocrine Cancer: A Summary for Healthcare Providers

Neuroendocrine tumors produce excess hormones in only about one-third of cases, but the typical syndromes caused by these hormonal imbalances can provide primary care doctors and other front line physicians with important clues to help distinguish neuroendocrine cancer from more common illnesses.

Patients do better when their tumors are found earlier.

People in North America experience symptoms an average of six years before receiving the correct diagnosis, according to findings on time to diagnosis in the global SCAN survey by the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance in 2019.
